What is Vehicle-to-Grid?
In this video, Katherine Collett of Oxford’s Energy Power Group, and the Programme on Integrating Renewable Energy, introduces the new concept called Vehicle-to-Grid.
Vehicles are sat idle for most of the time. Electric vehicles have a battery within them that, when the car is sat idle, is not doing anything. The idea of Vehicle-to-Grid is to use the batteries in electric vehicles to store surplus renewable energy when it is produced, to give to the national grid when there is a demand for electricity. In this way an EV is not just a vehicle, but an energy storage device!
