Niall is currently a Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellow at PIK Potsdam. While at Oxford, Niall’s primary research interests lay in the design of regulations and market structures that facilitate greater integration of renewable energy technologies. He also has research interests in the distributional impacts of energy and climate policy and spatial microsimulation modelling.
Prior to joining INET, Niall worked as an environmental economist with Ireland’s Climate Change Advisory Council Secretariat and the Irish Environmental Protection Agency. From 2012-2015, Niall worked with the Irish Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).
Niall carried out his PhD research on the economics of marine renewable energy with the Socio-Economic Marine Research Unit at the National University of Ireland, Galway. During this time he spent two semesters as a visiting student researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. Niall also holds M.Econ.Sc. (Economic and Environmental Modelling) and B.Comm (Economics) degrees.
