Dr Dimitra Apostolopoulou
Oxford Martin Fellow, Oxford Martin Programme on Integrating Renewable Energy
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Dr Dimitra Apostolopoulou is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Engineering Department and a Fellow of the Oxford Martin Programme on Integrating Renewable Energy. Prior to her current appointment she worked at the Smart Grid & Technology Department in Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) – a unit of Exelon Corp. (Chicago, Illinois, U.S.) that provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers.
Dimitra’s research lies on the interface of power and energy systems, decision and control, economics and energy policy. The increased dynamics, volatility and intermittency of tomorrow’s grid will increase the “uncertainty” of the system, and Dimitra’s work aims to highlight the fact that although new technologies and policies bring many new opportunities for energy reduction and efficiency improvements, they also bring the potential for an extremely complex system.
Dimitra was awarded a Ph.D. and a M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UIUC in 2014 and 2011, respectively. She received her undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from National Technical University of Athens, Greece in 2009.
