The Programme on the Future of Cooling has released its latest newsletter! It features the need for cold chains to reduce food waste in India, where the UN estimates that up to 40% of food is lost post-harvest in India due to the hot summer, acerbating malnutrition and rural poverty.
It highlights the new report by SEforALL, “Chilling Prospects: Tracking Sustainable Cooling for All 2019” and the new guidelines from UNEP that gives advice to governments on how to expand access to refrigeration and air conditioning while mitigating the energy and environmental impacts.
There is an update on the latest countries that have ratified the Kigali Agreement and the finalists announced for the Global Cooling Prize. There is mention of the great work of the New York Cool Roofs Initiative, the potential of the World Bank and Multilateral Development Banks to accelerate the uptake of sustainable cooling solutions, and the award of AUD2million by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency to demonstrate the technical and economic value of integrating thermal energy storage with renewable energy for HVAC&R.
